THE ZR1 IS NOW AMONG THE QUICKEST REAR-WHEEL DRIVE CARS IN THE WORLD.
With 755 horsepower on tap and big sticky tires, no one expected the Corvette ZR1 to be slow in a straight line. But the numbers it lays down, as confirmed by Corvette project manager Harlan Charles at the Sebring 12 Hours earlier this month, are truly bonkers for a rear-wheel drive car.
The headline figures, per Corvette Blogger: Zero to 60 mph in 2.85 seconds, 0-100 mph in 6.0 seconds, and a 10.6-second quarter-mile at 134 mph. Charles himself told Corvette Blogger that these numbers are legit. It isn't said if these figures were set with the ZR1's standard seven-speed manual or its optional eight-speed automatic, but we assume it was the latter.
It'll come as no surprise that these numbers make the ZR1 the quickest factory Corvette ever—Chevy quotes a 2.95-second 0-60 mph run for the automatic-equipped Z06, a tenth of a second slower than the new uber-Vette. It also makes the ZR1 as quick as the last base-model all-wheel drive Lamborghini Huracan we tested, and it's not far off the crazy-quick McLaren 720S.
This news comes just a few months after Chevrolet announced the ZR1 beat the lap record at Virginia International Raceway. Now, we're just waiting to see what the ZR1 will do at the Nürburgring.
So, let there be no doubt that the ZR1 is damn quick. But really, are you surprised?
