In the recent attempt to fool a bunch of folks in the first few days of April by a well-known brand threatening a name change, we’ve seen how an April Fool’s prank no longer plays by the rules to occur only on the first day of the month.
That’s why when we saw scuttlebutt about beloved Doug Fehan returning to Corvette Racing, we were pleasantly surprised, but a bit reticent. Doug was unceremoniously escorted out of his role as Program Manager for Corvette Racing back in December. His replacement, Laura Wontrop Klauser was named Chevrolet Sports Car Racing Program Manager. A very necessary, but broader role.
We started seeing rumblings about Doug’s return and while the moniker of “Program Manager” is not up for grabs, it appears that Doug will be doing much the same as he has for the past 25 years serving as the face of Corvette Racing for interviews and information. That’s all well, as Doug’s “tell it like you see it” demeanor makes for some great interviews! His arguably “new” title will be as a “Brand Manager” for Corvette Racing. Which was pretty much what he did so well previously.
His first public duties in his new role will be during the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. He will serve as a brand ambassador for 2021 as part of Chevrolet’s activities on Belle Isle, Michigan during the June 11-14, 2021 running of the NTT IndyCar Series and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
As you can expect, Doug will be in high-demand during the races this year and will interact with Corvette customers and fans during Corvette Corrals and Chevrolet promotions and marketing displays at various tracks around the globe. “I’m definitely looking forward to seeing all our fans during the 2021 IMSA season,” Doug said in an interview.
Corvette Racing has won 14 Team championships, 13 Manufacturer’s and Driver’s titles, along with 113 race victories (eight of which were during the 24 Hours of Le Mans). Other milestones of Doug’s previous tenure, Corvette Racing is the only team to achieve 100 wins in IMSA, and between the two Corvette Racing team cars, Corvette has finished first and second 63 times out of 238 races.
Fellow teammates Oliver Gavin and Ron Fellows also serve as Brand Ambassadors for Chevrolet and worked beside Doug to make Corvette Racing the powerhouse it has become. Corvette Racing will take on all comers during the IMSA Chevrolet Sports Car Classic on Corvette’s home track in Detroit on June 11-12,2021. The race starts at 5pm ET on Saturday, June 12th.
